Westboro Baptist Church has added Conway to its national picketing parade.  On May 21st from 7:45am to 8:15am their church members will be sharing their own unique interpretation of God's love with morning commuters and students in front of Conway High School.  The group is most famous for their colorful signs which state that God essentially hates everyone.  Examples of previous signs include:  Thank God For IEDs, God Hates Fags, USA = Fag Nation, Thank God For Dead Soldiers, God Is America's Terrorist, Your Pastor Is A Whore, God Blew Up the Shuttle, and most recently Thank God for the Oil Slick.

While they claim to be Baptists from Topeka, Kansas; it seems that neither Baptists or citizens of Kansas are willing to claim them as their own.  They're kinda like that crazed criminal, non-blood related, divorced from the family, ex-cousin, that we wish would quit telling everyone that their related to us.

Two weeks ago the employees of Family Outreach of Horry County arrived to work on Monday to find their front door kicked in. The intruders ripped the phone lines in the back, broke the front door and door jam, and stole a laptop. The additional costs to repair and replace the damages came while the organization was trying to cope with grant cuts from a stalled economy.

When members of First Baptist Church heard the story they felt led to help in some way. I visited their office and the staff gave me a quick tour. It quickly became apparent that the ladies there are so busy helping teen mothers and teaching young girls about pregnancy prevention, that their landscaping had been neglected for some time. So this past Sunday 19 people from FBC, left church, put on their gloves, and got to work. On Monday the ladies of Family Outreach arrived at work to find another surprise, a landscape makeover.

A unique food ministry provides discounted groceries to anyone who requests it. The more people who take advantage of it, the greater the savings are for everyone in the program.
