Dora Mae Davis McCants, 79

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.”

Mrs. Dora Mae Davis McCants, daughter of  the late Pearly and Quincy Walker Davis was born November 17, 1933 in Hemingway, South Carolina. She departed this life on Friday morning, June 29, 2012 4:30 a.m. at Conway Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Dora, as she was affectionately called by many, accepted Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Cochran community and joined Greater St. James A.M.E. Church. She was a member of the Missionary Society, Jubilee Choir and for many years she served as treasurer of that choir. She was a member of the Stewardess board and a faithful member of the Church School Department until her health began to decline. She was also a member of Willing Workers Chapter 323 Order of Eastern Stars.

 

Dora worked in the dry cleaning business for many years and was also a housekeeper. She was married to Mr. Jerry McCants and to this union twelve children were born. One sister and three brothers preceded her in death.

 

Dora Leaves to cherish her memories four sons; Robert (Priscilla) Everette, Pearly (Cora) McCants, Melvin (Sharon) McCants all of Conway, South Carolina, eight loving and devoted daughters; Jerry Faye (James) Dowe, Helen (Phillip) Sanders, Remell (Jonathan) Butler, Sylvia (David) Grissett, Bessie (Roy) Kirby and Pam McCants all of Conway, South Carolina, Hattie McCants of Loris, South Carolina and Wanda (Stanley) Tribble of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, one brother, James (Ora Lee) Davis of Hemingway, South Carolina and one sister; Genevieve Friend of Conway, South Carolina, two sisters-in-law; Isabell Wolfe of Whitesboro, New Jersey and Sylvia (James) Conner of Burlington, New Jersey, forty-eight grandchildren, seventy-five great grandchildren, a very special niece, Joyce Davis, a loving adopted daughter, Melissa McDonald and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Rhue’s Mortuary is serving the family.
